10. JUANCHO YRAUSQUIN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

JUANCHO E. YRAUSQUIN International airport is situated on an island with the shortest runway strip of only 400 meters and is surrounded by the mountains making it unique.
This small and unique in its kind airdrome is operated only by winning air. It has a small terminal building with a security and immigration office. The air traffic control tower only gives advisory service, and not the air traffic control services.

9. GISBORNE AIRPORT, NEW ZEALAND

Located on the western outskirts of Gisborne New Zealand it is one of the few aerodromes around the world that has a railway line crossing through it making it unique and standing out in the airports around the world.
It comprises of four tracks, three of which are grass runways suitable for light planes. One of the runways is of asphalt and is 1310 meters long. Every time there is an ongoing landing or take off the air traffic control has to look out of a crossing railway. If there is such intersection either the rail or the aircraft’s weight for the other one to pass.

8. GIBRALTAR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Gibraltar international airfield is the only airport of its kind. It has a highway intersecting through it. Every time there is an operation at the aerodrome the track is closed for the vehicles, as the aircraft lands or take off a spectacular view it is, of course, unique but dangerous as well.
It has a runway approximately 1300 meter long, suitable for both light and medium planes.

7. COURCHEVEL AIRPORT, FRANCE

Situated at the Elevation of almost 6000 feet. Beautifully located in the skiing area of France. This hanger is the one with the minimum facilities has a runway of only five hundred and twenty-five feet making it not suitable for operation of the medium of big aircraft.
The upslope runway, residing in the middle of the mountains and the weather conditions makes it stand out of other airports to find its mark in the unique airport’s list. Currently, only the small aircraft like Cessna and helicopters use the runway.

6. TENZING-HILLARY AIRPORT

Tenzing-Hillary Airport is situated in the town of Lukla, eastern Nepal. It is the place where most of the hikers start their journey to hike Mount Everest.
The hanger has a small asphalt runway of 460 meters. It is only suitable for the operation of small aircraft or helicopters. Tenzing-Hillary airport is one of the dangerous airports around the world, and it takes courage to fly in and out of this particular airstrip which makes it unique.

5. KANSAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Kansai international airport located in the middle of Osaka bay. It serves as a Hub to airlines of Japan and has all facilities an aerodrome must possess. Kansai International airport consists of two asphalt runways of length 3,500 and 4000 meters. This makes it capable of sustaining the operation for all aircraft.

What makes it unique enough to stand out from the rest of the airports around the world is the fact that it located on an artificial island. This artificial island is so huge spreading on a distance of four kilometers in length and two and a half kilometer in width. You can view this by the space. This runway is a stupendous work of civil engineering.

4. MADEIRA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Madeira International Airport located in the state of Santa Catherina Portuguese. It is famous for its unique style of construction. Surrounded by mountains and water makes runway a challenge for the pilots to land and takeoff.
Initially, it had a runway strip of 1600 meters that was not enough for the operation of prodigious aircraft. The airstrip was then extended to a length of approximately 2,800 meters into the sea, on 180 pillars each about seventy meters tall making it one of the unique airports around the world.

The ice runway located in Antarctica is 3000 meters long. Built to handle the operation of aircraft like Lockheed C 5 galaxy.
The most interesting thing about this airstrip is that it is built at the start of every season and is constantly looked upon for any ice displacement which is unique in itself.

2. PRINCESS JULIANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Also known as the Sint Maarten International Airport is located in Sint Maarten has airstrip of 2,800 meters long. It serves as a hub for Insel Air and Win Air.
The ten approach of the runway is from the waterside near the beach is what makes the runway unique. The aircraft when landing becomes too weak near the beach that it is a spectacular scene for those people in love with aviation.

Denver International airport is a beautiful airport in Colorado. It has six runway strips all made up of concrete. It has the longest runway strip in all of the United States that is 4,877 meters long.
What makes it be in the list of the ten unique airports in the world is the way in which it is powered up. It had its solar power setup on an area of seven and a half acres and produced three and a half million kilowatt energy every year.
